While she happily admits that most of her work is intuition her designs seem both warm and exuberant and away from the modern trend of minimalism. Of course if needed Melissa Collison can work with that style as well … as some of the pictures showcase.
The master bedroom in the top floor opens up into a beautiful balcony that gives the home’s residents refreshing views as they wake up each day. Similar stone flooring has been used throughout including the pool deck to maintain a sense of flowing and uninhibited space. The cool pool and the beautiful patio make this home complete.
This beautiful lower level uses nothing but glass walls and that pretty much brings the outdoors inside the home. The top level is surrounded by retractable wooden panels that ensure those inside can get all the privacy they need and still tap into the wonderful and fresh views of the outside world whenever they feel like.
One of the most distinctive and impressive aspects about the home is the excessive use of both glass and wood while concrete and stone seem to make their presence felt. The flooring on the interior and even the walls are clad in a coating of wood and all of it looks classy and elegant. The exterior uses a smooth and simple box-shaped design which seems to be the silhouette of choice in case of most present-day structures.
There is a fine balance between getting that perfect modern home which is both contemporary in design and comfortable to live in and one that is a bit too slick and modern and requires high maintenance. This beautiful 2-story residence in inner city Brisbane Australia is somewhat classic but still brings a dramatic modern twist. Shaun Lockyer Architects did a very good job designing this project as an addition to a mass-produced suburban type of house and developing it with originality.
